The Dawn by NastyLady The Dawn by NastyLady
After listening this [link] I thought "hey, I should totally draw Celestia singing!"
"And she should wear some super fancy eatheral princess gown with steampunk elements!"
"Oooh, and she should stand on a balcony!"
"In Canterlot!"
"With all the Equestria below!"
"And she also could make the sun rise!"

"wait..."
"WHAT did I say I am going to draw?"

You know what I think? This would be a great wallpaper.

As an impatient fan, I fully expect you to work on that and only that and get that out by tomorrow.

Hi, would you be willing to let me use this as a background for a song I'm writing? Credit will be given, of course.

Great picture. But, if you don't mind my asking, what about her outfit is particularly stempunk-ish?

I based her dress on Victorian ones. The light blue color and those "hangings" accesories may be a bit... confusing, but does everything have to be brown or beige and have gears sticked everywhere?
Okay, maybe this outfit is less purely steampunk and more "just victorian", I don't know.

The problem I have with this piece is similar to one (of several) I have with the battle scene you just put out. When you put things far away, it's hard to make them out without zooming in.

Examining details is a great joy. But if the elements are arranged that it's too difficult to enjoy the sum of the parts, what is the point of having a picture this inclusive, as opposed to just splitting the sections into their own images?

It's just like a Where's Wally, you look at it from afar and say "Wow that's cool," but then you look closer and see some of the details and think "That's interesting," so when you step back you get a different message than the thousands of others of people looking, you interpret it yourself instead of the message being handed to you. And splitting the sections into their own parts would true, make it easier to see the parts but it's not the same. To make a great picture you need a composition of beautifully created parts put together just right to make a complete image, one alone isn't a whole artwork. :)

I listened to the link you posted... YES, just YES. You did Celestia justice in this picture. Also, steampunk. Your description reminds me of how I write, I will daydream and act out my stories (in private, of course) and sometimes at the end I just go, "wait, I had a point to this somehow..." My hat is off to you, keep up the good work.

My god... The duo of this piece and the song from which it's inspired... I do pride myself (perhaps foolishly) on an extensive mastery of language; yet I find that I am struck dumb at the peerless quality of this union. Nonetheless, I will try to impart a fraction of my emotion for these works, they are deserving of that at least.

To begin with, the song: I sincerely love classical-styled music and instrumentals. I have heard many songs that were beautiful insomuch as I was brought to tears, but this one was different. It was a rare example of "haunting" beauty. It's such a hard quality to describe, but this modles that very thing perfectly. It was subdued, far from overdone. A musically simple ballad recounting a story of pain and regret, coupled with the overall tone, the emotion felt as real to me as I expect someone in a likewise circumstance to Celestia would feel. Maybe that's why I was not moved to tears; just merely awestruck.

This picture. To say I am impressed would be understating the matter. Immediately, there is an apparent split in the sky between the world of the day, and the world of the night. The inclusion of the fading moon was a masterstroke. The warm colors in the ocean of the dawn sky flow into each other almost as though they are themselves a bright luminescent liquid. Yet even so, the morning is pallid, as though Celestia's grief still weighs heavy in her heart. The iridescence and flow of her mane is aptly recreated in the image; one can almost feel the chill wind blowing as the coolness of night gives way to the dawn. "Aethereal" is the perfect word for Celestia's gown: light, delicate, and seeming to have been conjured from elements of its namesake.

Truly, there is as much emotion in this piece as there is in the song. My hearty thanks for sharing it with us.

Thank you for this beautiful comment in the first place!
The song is one of most beautiful ones in the fandom. I simply love the way it tells the story of Celestia and Luna. Not to mention the vocals. When I heard it for the first time I knew sooner or later I'll create this drawing. It just couldn't get out of my head.
And thank you once more for such a nice words. When I read comments like yours I feel that all the time and effort I put into drawing is really worth it.

Given the theme of the song, I think having the sun set and the moon featured more prominently would make more sense than the sun rising. Nonetheless, this is a very beautiful picture to go along with a very beautiful song.
